I have very dark circles under my eyes (aka raccoon eyes, allergy shiners). For 40+ years, I have tried the most highly recommended treatments, concealers, and gimmicks to either conceal or remove my perpetually ill-looking dark circles with everything from abject failure to moderate success.
Recently, I read in O magazine yet another bit of advice that sent me on yet another quest to find a solution. This time, I found what really works for me. I don't guarantee results, but if you're as frustrated as I have been all these years, it might be worth a try.
I put three dots of Smashbox Photo Op under each eye and blend well. (Don't be surprised if this makes your dark circles look worse at first.) I let this set while I put on my foundation, which I do not put around my eyes.
Next, I place sufficient Revlon PhotoReady concealer over the dark areas to completely mask the discoloration and blend it lightly into the surrounding skin, paying special attention to the areas inside my eye near my nose and just above my cheek where it is darkest. (I use a concealer brush, but your finger will work, too.)
I set it with a light dusting of bareMinerals hydrating mineral veil. (A large eyeshadow brush works well for this.)
This combination of products completely masks the discoloration yet looks completely natural in all lighting situations and lasts longer than I do in all kinds of weather conditions. None of these products alone or paired works the way the three do together.

I know this is supposed to be hydrating, and, based on the other reviews, it is hydrating for most people. For some reason, I find it to be very drying; with an almost chalky feel. I wear Bare Minerals Matte in Golden Medium, so maybe this is just the wrong mineral veil for the "matte" foundations. This powder is shiny and iridescent, and I find that when it captures light, it can look pinkish, purplish, and other colors. This is an interesting effect, but unfortunately it's not flattering on my skin, and it seems to clash badly (for me) with my foundation color. This type of iridescence always seems to make my pores about 10x more noticeable than I want them to be, so perhaps I just don't have the right skintype to benefit from this veil. I'll stick with original & tinted mineral veil, but I recommend this if you love iridescence!

Comments about bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil, 1 ea:
I have tried other powders, but I finally decided that there isn't another product that performs as well as Mineral Veil. I use the original formula during summer, but switch to the Hydrating in cooler weather when my skin gets drier. It sets my liquid foundation and preps my skin for bronzer and blush without streaks. It's not heavy or cakey, and makes my skin look flawless.
Pros
- Doesn't Settle In Creases
- Easy To Apply
- Lightweight
- Long-Lasting
- Silky Finish
Cons
- A bit sparkly

Comments about bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil, 1 ea:
I bought this product because I previously received a sample in a smashbox mini sample box. I have bad undereye darkness / dark circles, and I use quite a bit of concealer and foundation under my eyes for this reason. This led to heavy creasing/smudging of the products under my eyes (even with a good primer). I discovered that by applying some of the Hydrating Mineral Veil over my undereye area, my concealer and foundation stay put all day!!! In addition, it also "brightens" up my eyes. This has been a life saver for me. Just yesterday I wore it over lots of concealer and foundation, from 7.30 am to 6pm and it stayed put the entire day!!
The only downside to this product is that it does have some sparkle to it, so I would definitely not apply it in areas you don't want to brighten up, such as under your chin.
Comments about bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil, 1 ea:
I was about to give up on this line, due to how drying the minerals are to my face. However, with the hydrating mineral veil, I now love the products! If they quit producing the hydrating mineral veil, I will probably have to go back to liquid make-up, at least in the winter. I love this new product and am back to buy my second container!

I use this blended with the Tinted Mineral Veil, as the color is a little too pale for me. It just gives a nice finish concealer and blush, making everything glow and look natural.
