I was initially hesitant to try this product because I could not STAND Jonathan Antin after watching his show on Bravo a few years ago. What a self-important crybaby.... but I digress. I finally received a sample of Dirt and it only took a short while before I was completely hooked. The texture is somewhat firm (like a pomade or wax) but once you rub it between your hands and activate it, it quickly becomes a lot more pliable and is not goopy or sticky at all. You can use it on either wet or dry hair, depending on the style you're trying to achieve. I've found that when you use it on wet hair it becomes more akin to a traditional pomade with a firmer hold, whereas on dry hair it gives you more control and a softer, less static hold. The nice thing is that either way you use it, your hair does not become hard or stiff nor do you get flakes from the product separating from your hair. While the price may be a bit steep, you honestly don't need that much to work with and it's still a better value than the overpriced and overhyped Bumble & Bumble. It also rinses very cleanly in the shower so there's no product build-up. Highly recommeded to anyone that needs to break their addiction to the typical haircare product!

I'm giving this product 2 stars ONLY because it smells so heavenly.
I'm not sure what hair type this works for, but it's certainly not for my straight, medium length hair. I only used a little bit, like others have recommended. When you put it on initially, it looks great--you get a little separation and it seems to create a bit of waviness if you have straight hair. Then, two hours later, the product sort of hardens on your ends and melts onto your scalp. The 10 times I tried it (it does look awesome initially) I ended up with super dry ends that broke off and roots that looked like I hadn't bathed in several days. Definitely not in a sexy "day after" sort of way either. I actually have to get a hair cut to repair the damage to my ends.

Comments about Jonathan Product Dirt, Texturizing Paste, 3.35 oz:

I have used so many products over the years on my short, texturized, color treated hair. This product is awesome. I'm thrilled with the way it handles my style and the next day it stays the same with no shampooing necessary. I want to now try some of the other Jonathan Products offered. Good-bye to others, lots of them.

I really liked the texture & hold. It didn't look like I had any product in and that's the way I want it. Bonu - it smells great.

Need just a dab and rub between hands then apply. Smells fantastic! has a nice strong hold yet doesnt dry out or flake. I have short thinning hair and this makes it fuller and gives it texture. A jar lasts me about 6 months.

Comments about Jonathan Product Dirt, Texturizing Paste, 3.35 oz:

I have short, straight hair cut in layers with longer bangs. I have used "Dirt" every day for years, and I love it! For my style, I just take a very small amount (about the size of a pea) and rub it hard between my hands, then work it all over my hair. The hold is excellent, but it is very soft and looks natural. An added benefit is my husband loves the smell; he says it smells like sugar cookies. This is the only product that works for me without making my hair too stiff - giving me a helmet head - or greasy. Please keep carrying this one!

I still have half a jar (and a jar lasts a long time), but I panic at thinking I might have to be without it, so I'm buying another. I've used this product for a couple of years. My hair is short, straight, and thick. I use Dirt after drying to give it lift and texture. Simply rub a dime-size dollop between hands to warm and work thru hair, then shape. Works all day.

There area bunch of good reviews on this so i was hoping it would work. i have thick short hair and like to use pomade/paste to create texture and style. this stuff does not offer ANY hold for my hair. it smells great (like sugary almonds) but really doesn't do much.

i can't really fault it as I am STILL searching for that magic product that offers hold and doesn't feel stiff like gel. for my really thick straight hair, i'm afraid that products just doesn't exist.

This product is good for hair that is thick. You need only a pea sized amount and rub between your hands and then apply to dry hair to get a day after shampoo look. The almond scent is too overpowering and clashes with perfume. I don't like smelling like a sweet almond. If Jonathan changes the scent, I will buy again.
