Comments about DevaCurl No-Poo, 32 oz:

My daughter has very curly hair that is also fine. Devacurl is the only hair products she will use. She loves the shiny ringlets that her hair falls into when using Devacurl No Poo Cleanser and One Condition. Curly hair can be impossible to tame, but Devacurl has done a great job.

Comments about DevaCurl No-Poo, 32 oz:

As someone with very long(waist-length), very curly hair, this "shampoo-free" cleanser is absolutely incredible! I've tried a myriad of traditional shampoos and lather-free cleansers meant for dry, curly, coily, wavy, coarse, hair, and for every possible combination of those hair types. None of them compare to this product.

Note that with curly hair, you should NOT wash it too frequently. Daily washing is very unnecessary with curly hair, as it tends to be extra dry at the mid-lengths and ends, due to the curly nature of the hair making it harder for the scalp's natural oils to make it down the length of the hair, and the fact that you can't brush or comb curls to help distribute those oils throughout the hair. For clarification, I only wash my curls 2-3 times per week. I've been using this cleanser for about 2.5 months at the time of this review.

Compared to other "No-Poo" type cleansers, this one is far easier to apply, work into hair, and rinse out. There is no requirement to scrub your head for a crazy long time or to leave this product in after working through hair (unlike WEN and other lather-free, or no-poo, cleansers). There is also no weird odors, no menthol- or camphor-like scents, or sensations to the scalp area. It's best to apply the cleanser to hair in sections. I typically apply it first to my roots, and spend about 3 minutes or so vigorously rubbing the cleanser into the roots and scalp with my fingertips to break up oils and styling products that gather in that area. Once the roots and scalp are clean, I apply the cleanser to the mid-lengths and ends, gently working the product through with my fingertips and flattened palms, for a minute or two. The cleanser feels like a light conditioner, and spreads through hair easily and quickly with minimal effort. For my waist-length, VERY curly, very THICK hair, I go through about 20-30 pumps per washing.

Once the cleanser is worked through my hair, I rinse it thoroughly in warm water. It rinses quickly and easily, even in my South-Texas hard water. Even before applying ANY type of conditioner or mask, my hair feels clean, soft, silky, and smooth. The cleanser leaves no residue whatsoever, and has a light, pleasant fragrance that doesn't interfere with any of my usual fragrances at all. Likewise, my husband gives two thumbs up to the post-washing smell of my hair.

While most people are accustomed to the lather-heavy, bubble-rich nature of traditional shampoos, and this cleanser has no lather or bubbles, it does provide a very gentle and thorough cleanse for hair, with minimal conditioning and no dryness. I don't miss the lather or bubbles at all. Additionally, most people are accustomed to going through their conditioner much faster than their shampoo, but that's not a problem here. I go through the cleanser more quickly than the conditioner (I use the DevaCurl One Conditioner most often, replacing it with the Heaven In Hair deep treatment once weekly).

If you have dry, thirsty curls, this is definitely worth a try.
