intensive retinol 1.0 - anti-aging

Fall in love with retinol all over again.  Poetry in Lotion is designed to maximize skin rejuvenation with the least possible side effects. This innovative formulation contains a sophisticated anti-irritant complex to help reduce concerns commonly associated with the use of retinol. Patch testing on 50 volunteers enrolled in an independent clinical trial found no evidence of any redness, dryness or irritation.

A clinically proven agent in the fight against the signs of aging, retinol helps increase dermal thickness and collagen production.  Refines complexion, restores vibrancy and aids in firming the skin.

Well-versed in reducing the appearance of:

  • Fine lines

  • Wrinkles
  • Blotchy skin discoloration

Contains An Anthology Of Botanicals:

  • Leontopodium Alpinum (Edelweiss) Extract:  Alpine flower extract long used for its antioxidant and free radical-scavenging properties.
  • Hypericum Perforatum (St. John's Wort) Leaf Extract:  Source of powerful irritation-soothing flavonoids including Quercetin.
  • Phytosphingosine:  Natural occurring skin lipid with anti-redness and skin firming properties.
  • Sambucus Nigra (Elderberry) Flower Extract:  Antioxidant rich in bioflavonoids and anthocyanins.
  • NDGA & Oleanolic Acid:  Targets redness while calming inflammation.
  • Spiraea Ulmaria (Meadowsweet) Flower Extract:  One of the three most sacred herbs of the Druids for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic benefits.
  • Evodia Rutaecarpa Fruit Extract (aka Wu Zhu Yu):  Berry extract native to China shown to have powerful calming effect on inflammation in human skin.
  • Boswellia Serrata Extract (aka Indian Frankincense):  Resin native to India shown to have soothing effect on inflammation in human skin.

Comments about DERMAdoctor POETRY in Lotion, 1 oz:

I got this because it was well reviewed in Allure and I am looking for something that combats two of my skin issues: new wrinkles and mild to moderate breakouts. I didn't find this overly drying as I used it every other day or every few days, but I also didn't notice it helping with my fine wrinkles OR my breakouts. It's expensive for something that isn't great so I will not buy it again. I've been using Correct + Antiaging from Skinceuticals and I find that is much more effective.

Comments about DERMAdoctor POETRY in Lotion, 1 oz:

This product works because it contains a very high concentration of retinol, which is a retinoid (Vitamin A), related to Retin-A.

I don't have particularly sensitive skin and I tried several times to tolerate the lowest dose of Retin-A but it was just too irritating.

This is a fantastic product. It has such a high amount of retinol, that it works as well as the Retin-A (my experience) WITHOUT the irritation. It immediately made my complexion look more even and radiant (retinols increase cell turn-over), and with continued use, it is lightening some mild hyperpigmentation and fine lines (retinols are known to do this if they are strong enough).

Also, though I am in my 40s, I still break-out easily and this product allows me to use sunblock without breaking out. That alone is great, because all sunblocks used to make me break-out (the main use of Retin-A is for acne and this retinol is so powerful that it has stopped my break-outs).
The downside to this product: no getting around it, it is pricey. Also, I have oily/combination skin. If you have dry skin, you are going to have trouble with ANY strong retinol, as they are all drying.

I used this twice, at three day intervals. My skin is so badly dried that it is still peeling and red after one week. I will never buy this again.

Comments about DERMAdoctor POETRY in Lotion, 1 oz:

This works every bit as well as the hightly popular SkinCeutials 1.0; however, the bottle for Poetry in Lotion is pure genius. The pump pops out of the top of the tube when twisted. One pump dispenses the perfect amount of product for the whole face, and then you twist the tube again, and the top recedes. None of the product is exposed to air, and you never have to worry about losing a cap. The bottle really isn't why I love this stuff, though, but after wasting hundeds of dollars because of malfunctioning SkinCeuticals packaging (I've yet to see a bottle that actually works), it's wonderful to be able to use all my retinol cream. I love this because it's remarkably gentle. SkinCeuticals is gentle, but every now and then I experienced irritation. Poetry in Lotion is soothing. It's light, and very easy to spread; almost gel-like, but still a lotion. If you're interested in giving a high potency retinol treatment a try, I highly recommend Poetry in Lotion because it truly seems to be gentler than others, even lower potency retinols.

I have tried other 1% retinol products and they were very irritating to my skin even though I had used less potent retinol before. Poetry in Lotion does everything it says it will do without irritating my skin!
